Our history

Intense Boxing opened in Plymouth in 2011. From day one, this club has been a family.

Over the years, a lot of people have walked through our doors, trained hard, laughed with us and become part of the Intense family. Every one of them is part of our story.

This page is here so that the people who have been part of the club are always remembered.

More stories and photos from over the years are to come.

In memory

Courtney Richards

1992 – 2020

Courtney Richards smiling, hands behind his head

Courtney came to us in 2017 wanting to take his boxing seriously, and he became part of the Intense family straight away. He was a big, larger-than-life cruiserweight with a unique gift: he could take away the best qualities of very good boxers and drag them into his kind of fight. Believing in him was a big part of why Marlee went for a professional trainer licence.

Outside the ring he was the kind of guy you wanted to talk to for hours. He was a joker, always on the wind up, and he always had a smile on his face. Above everything he was a proud dad to his daughter Rae. We were all devastated when we lost him in July 2020, aged just 27. He was a very loved person who is missed every day, and he's still thought of and talked about in the gym today.

Always in our thoughts.
